Gotovets In World U20s

Kirill Gotovets was a member of the Belarus team which recently participated in the Division 1 World U20 Championship in Gdansk, Poland.

Belarus finished second to Norway in Group B. Belarus defeated Kazakhstan, Croatia, and host Poland, while losing to Italy and Norway.

Kirill played the first two games of the tournament, against Italy and Poland, and was scoreless while picking up four penalty minutes. Kirill is expected to be back with Shattuck for the Mac's AAA Midget Tournament being held this week.

Ryan To Team Sweden

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association has named Joakim Ryan to its roster (truppen) for the World Under-17 Challenge in Timmins, Ontario. also had an article on Joakim's selection in Sunday's edition.

There will be three Cornell recruits in the World Under-17 Challenge, which begins on December 29:

Joakim Ryan (SWE) - Team Sweden vs Team Pacific (ex)
Philippe Hudon (QUE) - Team Quebec vs Team USA (ex)
Cole Bardreau (USA) - Team USA vs Team Quebec (ex)

Colts Best Stallions

Cornwall won a fiesty match against Kanata, 8-2, on Thursday. Kevin Cole picked up two assists for the Colts before receiving a game misconduct for hitting from behind in the third period. Kevin also received a 10-minute Protective Equipment misconduct in the second period. There were five 10-minute misconducts handed out in the game, two of which were of the Protective Equipment variety.

Cornwall will host Nepean on Saturday.

Oilers Tripped Up By Canucks

Okotoks scored three goals in the first period, including two in the final 16 seconds of the period, but couldn't hold off Calgary on Thursday, dropping a tough 4-3 decision. Rodger Craig did not play.

Okotoks will visit Drumheller on Saturday.

Victoria Blanks Silverbacks

Ryan Holfeld picked up his second straight shutout as Victoria defeated Salmon Arm, 4-0, on Wednesday. Dustin Mowrey scored two goals and picked up the game's 2nd-Star.

Victoria visits Vernon on Friday to wrap up the pre-holiday portion of its schedule.

Choate Doubles L-C

Choate scored the first five goals of the game on its way to a 6-3 win over Loomis-Chaffee on Wednesday afternoon. Philippe Hudon picked up an assist for Choate.

The Wild Boars will be at the Lawrenceville Tournament on Saturday. Philippe is scheduled to miss the tournament to be with Team Quebec as it prepares for the World U17 Challenge to be held from December 29-January 4.

Omaha Thumps Tri-City

Omaha ran out to a 3-0 lead on Tuesday and never really looked back as it beat Tri-City, 9-2. Mathieu Brisson scored a goal and had an assist for the Lancers.

Omaha will visit Chicago on Friday.

Grizz Blanks Cents

Victoria shut out Merritt, 4-0, on Tuesday. Dustin Mowrey scored two goals and added a helper to pick up the game's 2nd-Star.

Victoria visits Salmon Arm on Wednesday.

Oilers Drops Eagles

Okotoks defeated Canmore, 6-3, on Tuesday. Rodger Craig did not play.

The Oilers visit the Calgary Canucks on Thursday.

Brisson Named Player of the Week

The USHL named Mathieu Brisson its CCM Defensive Player of the Week. Mathieu scored a goal and had three assists in two games for the Lancers this past week.

Mathieu, one of the youngest players on Omaha, is in his first season in the USHL. Congratulations, Mathieu.

Choate Easy Does It

Choate had its way with Deerfield on Saturday, picking up a 7-0 win. Philippe Hudon scored a goal for the victors.

Choate will visit Loomis-Chaffee on Wednesday.

Victoria Falls To Kings

On Friday, Victoria raced out to a 3-0 lead but couldn't hold on, while on Saturday it was Powell River who ran out in front by three and were able to finish the game. The Kings gave up three third period goals to Victoria but pulled the game out in overtime, 4-3. Dustin Mowrey picked up two assists and four penalty minutes.

Victoria will host Langley on Sunday.

Okotoks Drop One

Okotoks lost to Olds, 4-3, on Saturday. Rodger Craig did not play.

Okotoks will visit Canmore on Tuesday.

USHL Recap

Team USA's U17s battled back to split with Youngstown, picking up a 4-3 victory on Saturday. Cole Bardreau was scoreless and picked up two penalty minutes.

The U17s are off for a couple of weeks until the World U17 Challenge. The Nats will have an exhibition game against Team Quebec on December 28.

Indiana also picked up a split in its series with Lincoln, with a 4-3 shootout win on Saturday. Brian Ferlin was scoreless.

The Ice will host Youngstown on Friday.

Omaha breezed to a 9-2 win over Sioux Falls on Saturday. Mathieu Brisson scored a goal and added an assist in the win.

Omaha will host Tri-City on Tuesday.

U18s Defeat Williams

Team USA skated to a 6-1 win over Williams College on Saturday. Williams is currently ranked 14th in Division III and has yet to lose this year in the regular season. Andy Iles got the win by stopping 21 of the Ephs' shots.

The U18s will host Cedar Rapids on Friday.

U18s Fall To Union

The Nationals visited Union on Friday and came out on the short end of a 4-1 verdict. Andy Iles did not play.

The Nats will visit Williams College on Saturday.

USHL Update

Team USA's U17s dropped a 6-5 overtime game to Youngstown on Friday. Cole Bardreau was scoreless.

The Nationals play the Phantoms again on Saturday.

Indiana was blanked by Lincoln, 1-0, on Friday. Brian Ferlin was scoreless.

The Ice and Stars face off again on Saturday.

Also on Friday, Omaha fell to Tri-City, 3-2, in a shoot-out. Mathieu Brisson had an assist and two penalty minutes for the Lancers.

Omaha hosts Sioux Falls on Saturday.

Stars Split

Syracuse dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to Baystate on Friday, but bounced back on Saturday with a 2-1 win over Green Mountain. John Knisley was scoreless in each game.

The Stars will host Jersey for a two game set beginning on Saturday.

Victoria Can't Hold Off Express

Victoria sprang out to a 3-0 lead but couldn't put Burnaby away, falling, 5-4, in overtime on Friday. Dustin Mowrey scored a goal and added two helpers for the Grizz.

Victoria will visit Powell River on Saturday.

Oilers Prevail In 2OT

Okotoks defeated Camrose, 4-3, in double overtime on Friday. Rodger Craig did not play.

Okotoks will host Olds on Saturday.

Cornwall Falls In OT

Kanata needed just 13 seconds of overtime to pull out its 4-3 win over Cornwall on Friday. Cornwall had won six straight games. Kevin Cole was scoreless for the Colts.

Cornwall will visit Gloucester on Sunday.

Cornwall needed an empty netter from Mike Zannella to put away Cumberland, 6-4, on Thursday. Kevin Cole was scoreless for the Colts.

Indy Shuts Down Phantoms

Cab Morris (Dartmouth) picked up his third shutout of the season as Indiana defeated Youngstown, 3-0, on Thursday. Brian Ferlin was scoreless for the Ice.

Indiana hosts Lincoln on Friday.

Boston Edges South Shore

The Jr. Bruins got past South Shore, 2-1, on Wednesday. Stephen Miller was scoreless for Boston.

The Bruins will host Salem on Saturday, the 19th.

Choate Loses Home Opener

Choate fell behind 4-0 to Westminster and couldn't come back, dropping a 5-2 decision on Wednesday. Philippe Hudon scored a goal for the Wild Boars.

Choate will visit Deerfield on Saturday.

Grizzlies Edge Bulldogs

Dustin Mowrey scored 21 seconds into the game and then assisted on the game-winner in the third to help Victoria to a 2-1 win over Alberni Valley on Tuesday. Dustin picked up the game's 2nd-Star for his effort.

Victoria will visit Burnaby on Friday.

Shattuck Takes Detroit

Shattuck rolled into Detroit this past weekend and took on the Michigan Midget trinity of power. On Friday, the Sabres took care of Victory Honda, 3-1. On Saturday, Honeybaked went down, 6-3. Shattuck finished its trip with a 5-2 win over Little Caesars on Sunday. Kirill Gotovets scored a goal and picked up an assist to go with 12 penalty minutes.

Shattuck is off to Indiana this weekend for a series with Culver Prep.

Syracuse Shines

The Stars rolled through Philadelphia and swept the Revolution, 8-3 and 7-2, this weekend. John Knisley scored three goals and added two assists in the series.

Syracuse will visit Baystate on Friday.

Wild Tamed

Wenatchee came out on the short end of two 2-1 games against St. Louis this weekend. Friday's game ended in regulation, while Saturday's affair ended in a shootout. Armand de Swardt was scoreless and picked up 6 penalty minutes.

Wenatchee is off for a bit and will host Alaska for two games beginning on Saturday, January 2nd.

Devils' Sunday Sweep

New Jersey won its doubleheader on Sunday when it defeated Team Comcast, 2-1, and Long Island, 4-2. Joakim Ryan scored a goal and added a helper to go along with four penalty minutes.

The Devils will visit Philadelphia on Sunday.

Jr. Bruins Blank CD Selects

Colin Stevens pitched back-to-back shutouts against CD Selects on Saturday and Sunday as Boston rolled to 5-0 and 14-0 wins. Steven Miller picked up four assists in his return to action.

Boston will visit South Shore on Wednesday.

Okotoks Takes Two Of Three

The Oilers had a busy weekend and started strong with wins on Friday and Saturday over Lloydminster, 2-0, and Spruce Grove, 4-3, in overtime. Okotoks couldn't finish the sweep on Sunday, however, falling to Sherwood Park, 4-1. Rodger Craig had an assist on the weekend.

Okotoks will host Camrose on Friday.

Grizz Split

Dustin Mowrey sparked Victoria to a weekend split. After dropping a 4-0 game to Alberni Valley on Friday, things started slowly for the Grizzlies as Surrey jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Saturday. Dustin's two goals drew Victoria even and started the team on a six goal run that led to a 6-3 win. Dustin also added an assist to pick up the game's 1st-Star.

Victoria travels to Port Alberni on Tuesday.

Choate Drops Opener

Choate fell in its opener, 5-2, to Gunnery on Saturday. Philippe Hudon had an assist.

The Wild Boars has its home opener on Wednesday against Westminster.

USHL Recap

Omaha split its games this weekend. The Lancers defeated the US U18s, 3-2, on Friday, then lost to Indiana, 4-2, on Saturday. Mathieu Brisson picked up an assist on the weekend for the Lancers. Brian Ferlin was scoreless for the Ice on Saturday.

Omaha travels to Tri-City on Friday.

On Friday, Indiana fell to Des Moines, 5-1. Brian Ferlin was scoreless.

Indy will visit Youngstown on Thursday.

Also on Saturday, the U18s defeated Tri-City, 3-2, in a shootout. Andy Iles stopped 20 shots during the game and then stuffed 3 of 4 shootout attempts for the win.

The U18s will be on the road at Union on Friday. The U17s will host Youngstown on Friday.

Cornwall Blanks Hawks

Doug Carr pitched his second straight shutout to lead Cornwall to a 3-0 win over Hawkesbury on Saturday afternoon. Kevin Cole scored a goal and added an assist for the Colts to pick up the game's 2nd-Star.

Cornwall will host Cumberland on Thursday.

From Sweden With Love

USHR has reported that Joakim Ryan (6', 190) a 1993-born blueliner from Rumson, NJ has committed to the Big Red for 2011. Joakim currently attends CBA HS in NJ and plays for the NJ Devils' Midget program (AYHL). According to USHR, Joakim has scored 5 goals and added 3 assists in his first two games with CBA. Joakim has scored 9 goals and pitched in 15 assists in 21 games with the Devils, which currently leads the league in scoring among defensemen.

Joakim is the son of former Swedish tennis star Catarina Lindqvist and was once a rising tennis star in Sweden. Joakim's father is a US tennis agent, hence he has dual citizenship.

Joakim was a finalist for the US NTDP team over the summer when he was one of 40 players invited to camp. Joakim will be off to Sweden this month to participate in Sweden's U17 camp, which will play in the World Under-17 Challenge later this month in Ontario.

Joakim's other finalists were Hockey East schools Northeastern and Vermont.

Fly Like A Bruin

The Boston Junior Bruins (Empire JHL) announced that Steven Miller (6' 2", 195), a 1993-born forward from Boxbourough, MA, has committed to Cornell, for either 2011 or 2012.

Steven has scored 8 goals and added 10 assists in 15 games with the Jr Bruins (Empire) this season, having recently been out with a broken wrist. Prior to his injury, Steven had also skated in two games with the Bruins' EJHL team. The Jr. Bruins currently lead the Empire's Eastern Conference with a record of 20-2-1.

Cornwall Rolls Canadians

Cornwall had its way with Carleton Place on Thursday as it cruised to an 8-0 win. Kevin Cole scored a goal and added a helper for the Colts to pick up the game's 2nd-Star.

Cornwall plays host to Hawkesbury on Saturday.

Indiana Rally Falls Short

Sioux Falls scored five goals to start the game before Indiana answered with four straight by the end of the second period. That would be as close as the Ice would come, however, as it dropped a 6-4 decision to the Stampede on Thursday. Brian Ferlin was scoreless.

Indy will visit Des Moines on Friday.

Victoria Clips Nanaimo

Dustin Mowrey's hat trick paced Victoria's 7-4 win over Nanaimo on Wednesday. The Grizzlies scored four times in the third to finally put the Clippers away. Dustin was named the game's 1st-Star for his effort.

Victoria will host Alberni Valley on Friday.

Oilers Over Royals

Okotoks came away with a 5-3 win over Calgary on Wednesday. Rodger Craig was scoreless.

The Oilers will visit Lloydminster on Friday.
