From Grizzly To Big Red Bear

Chris Heisenberg has reported that Dustin Mowrey has committed to Cornell for 2010. Dustin (5'9", 180) is a 1991-born centerman playing with Victoria (BCHL). In 4 games with the Grizzlies this season, Dustin has scored 2 goals and picked up an assist. Last season, Dustin scored 8 goals and had 18 helpers in 60 games with Victoria.

Two years ago, Dustin was named Rookie of the Year in the Pacific International JHL, a Jr. B league in British Columbia, where he finished tied for the league lead in goals scored and 6th overall in scoring. In 48 games with Grandview, Dustin scored 38 goals and had 28 assists.

Welcome to the Big Red, Dustin.

I don't know too much about recruiting, but isn't 26 points in 60 games a little low for a forward? Or is it so late in the 2010 cycle that Cornell is just looking for people who aren't expected to contribute much right away?

He was one of Victoria's youngest players last year, so point production might not have been the expectation. He is reportedly a nasty penalty killer and that makes me smile.

2 years ago he was the Rookie of the year in the PIJHL (JrB) and finished tied for the league lead in goals, as well as 6th overall in points.
