2009-2010 Roster Update

It looks like Armand de Swardt is deferring for a year after all. Armand has hooked up with the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) and will be heading to the Hill next season.

This fall's roster now stands at 27 -- 16 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 3 goalies. That lightens up the forward position a bit, but should still make for some intense competition.

Here's the breakdown by class and position:

Seniors: 6 (8 in 2008-2009)
F - Blake Gallagher (A)
F - Colin Greening (C)
F - Joe Scali
D - Justin Krueger
D - Brendon Nash
G - Ben Scrivens

Juniors: 6 (6 in 2008-2009)
F - Joe Devin
F - Patrick Kennedy
F - Riley Nash (A)
F - Dan Nicholls
F - Tyler Roeszler
D - Mike Devin

Sophomores: 6 (6 in 2008-2009)
F - Sean Collins
F - Locke Jillson
F - Jordan Kary
D - Keir Ross
D - Sean Whitney
G - Michael Garman

Freshmen: 9 (6 in 2008-2009)
F - Erik Axell
F - John Esposito
F - Vince Mihalek
F - Greg Miller
F - Chris Moulson
D - Braden Birch
D - Nick D'Agostino
D - Jarred Seymour
G - Omar Kanji

On the horizon...

2010-2011:
Targets (5-6): Fs: 2-3, Ds: 2, Gs: 1
  • F - Cole Bardreau
  • F - Kevin Cole
  • F - Rodger Craig
  • F - Armand de Swardt
  • F - Dustin Mowrey
  • F - Brian Ferlin (2011)
  • F - Phillipe Hudon (2011)
  • F - John Knisley (2011)
  • F - Stephen Miller (2012?)
  • D - Mathieu Brisson
  • D - Kirill Gotovets
  • D - Joakim Miller (2011)
  • G - Andy Iles

It now appears 2010's class is full, although I still wouldn't be surprised to see another forward or two (depending upon whether Kevin Cole defers to 2011) join the class. Pending any early departures, the next two classes could be full.

    Juniors Ready To Start Season

Spring and summer always seem to be over in a blink or two of the eye, yet it takes forever for hockey season to begin once more. Forever, at least the 2009 version, is finished beginning on Friday. Two of the Big Red's recruits begin their seasons this weekend when the CJHL and the Alberta JHL get underway.

Kevin Cole will take the ice for Cornwall as the Colts face Pembroke, the 3-time defending CJHL champions, on Friday. While in Alberta, Rodger Craig will skate with Okotoks as the Oilers visit Calgary on Saturday.

Most of the remaining recruits begin preseason play this weekend.

    So rest easy...hockey has returned.

    Summer Poll Results

Did we really just have summer? I swear I fell asleep in May and just woke up on this last day of August. I remember peonies and then it was dark, cool, misty, with the scent of leaves crowding the streets. No matter, it brings one that much closer to hockey season.

Our summer poll asked which school was the "early pick to win the ECACHL in 2009-2010?"

    The results were as follows:

  • 56% -- Cornell (shocking, isn't it?)
  • 14% -- Yale (no surprise)
  • 7% -- Clarkson (readers expecting a rebound)
  • 6% -- Harvard
  • 5% -- Princeton
  • 3% -- Dartmouth
  • 3% -- RPI
  • 2% -- Brown
  • 2% -- Colgate
  • 2% -- SLU
  • 1% -- Quinnipiac
  • 1% -- Union

Thank you, once again, for voting & please remember to vote in the current Puckhead Poll.
