A Sunshiny Day

According to Chris Heisenberg, the Big Red has picked up a 2011 commitment from Brian Ferlin (6' 2", 195), a 1992-born forward from Jacksonville, Florida. Brian will be playing with the Indiana Ice (USHL) this fall. Last season, Brian was named the Metropolitan JHL's South Division Player of the Year while playing with the Jacksonville Ice Dogs, where he scored 40 goals and had 37 assists in 38 games for the Junior Bs.

Brian participated in the Select-17 Festival in Rochester this month where he scored 3 goals and added 3 assists in 5 games. Brian was also named to the camp all-star game.

Brian will be participating with the USA's Under-18 team in the Ivan Hlinka tournament next month in Slovakia.

Welcome to Cornell, Brian.

Maybe this kid will be the first in a long line of players from this Jacksonville program to come to Cornell.

It'll be worth watching what's going on in Jacksonville. That's an interesting model, and it's one I wish the Ithaca area could develop.

It looks like Brian will be the youngest member of the Ice. I'll be excited to see how he does -- that's a big jump from Jr. B to the top Jr A league in the country.
