Friday Recap

Cushing won a wild affair with Deerfield, 7-6. Sean Whitney picked up an assist for the Penguins, who travel to Tilton for a game on Saturday.

Braden Birch made his debut for Oakville in the Blades' 11-2 win over Streetsville. Braden didn't register any points in his first OPJHL action.

Oakville will host Hamilton on Saturday. The Blades have now won 18 straight games.

Also in Ontario, St. Michael's breezed past Ajax, 9-2. Erik Axell had an assist on the night, while Nick D'Agostino went scoreless for the Buzzers. St. Michael's, like Oakville, has also won 18 games in a row.

St. Mike's will be at home to face Markham on Sunday.

In USHL action, Vince Mihalek assisted on Nick Oddo's (Nebraska-Omaha) game-winning goal as Cedar Rapids defeated Green Bay, 3-1. The two teams meet again on Sunday in Green Bay.

In a matchup that was expected to feature two future members of the Big Red, Omaha had their way with Des Moines, 7-1. The Cornell connection, however, never materialized as Locke Jillson was held out of the Bucs' lineup. Keir Ross was held scoreless for the Lancers. . The two teams will play again on Saturday in Des Moines.

Out west, Nanaimo continued to struggle in the new year as they lost to Victoria, 3-1. The Clippers have now lost 4 straight games, cutting their Coastal Conference lead to seven points over Surrey. Michael Garman did not play for the Clips.

Nanaimo travels to face Alberni Valley on Sunday.
