Big Red Lancer

Keir Ross (6', 185), a 1989-born defenseman, has committed to Cornell for 2008. Keir (McKinney, TX), who plays with Omaha in the USHL, is the second student-athlete from the Dallas area to commit to the Big Red for next season, joining Locke Jillson. Keir and Locke are both products of the Dallas Stars' AAA program, which also sent David McKee to Cornell.

Keir is currently the 14th-ranked defenseman (65th overall) in Chris Heisenberg's listing of USHL players. In 57 games with the Lancers last year, Keir scored 3 goals and added 3 assists during his rookie season, when he was also one of the younger players in the league. Keir, additionally, finished with a +20 ranking, which was 3rd among all defensemen in the USHL (tied for 11th among all players).

McKeen's hockey.com has this to say about Keir: Calm two-way defenseman that is savvy away from the puck...poised with the puck and has decent escape ability...does a wonderful job of taking his man out of the play one on one, maintains near flawless defensive positioning... McKeen's also reports that Keir began to show more offensive potential as he gained confidence during the season.

According to the Omaha Lancers, Keir selected Cornell over Colorado College and Princeton. U.S. Hockey Report additionally reveals that Dartmouth and St. Lawrence tried to convince Keir to commit for the 2007 season.

Welcome to the Big Red, Keir.
