Prospects: 2010 & 2011

Updated 11/1/09.
Reader beware: BRP attempts to aggregate as much information as possible. Nothing truly confidential should ever (knowingly) appear -- rumor and guesswork, however, may be fair game.
As always, please remember that whether there is interest on Cornell's part, or on a student's part, is unconfirmed in many cases. Some of the players listed have been reported to either have interest in or be of interest to Cornell, while others are strong students who have expressed interest in one or more of the Ivies and would therefore be logical candidates or simply come from traditional recruiting areas.
Note: This information wouldn't be possible without the contributions of Cornell fans near and far. As always, any tips or pointers are greatly appreciated. Thank you & please keep the info coming.

Bill Day (Washington Jr Nationals - AJHL), previously listed as a blueline prospect committed to Army for 2008.
Thanks. That's good news for both William and West Point.
Suprised to not see any of the MWEHL 92's on your 2010 watchlist. Any news on kids from Compuware, Honeybaked, or Belle Tire getting sniffed out?
Haven't seen anything, yet. Great league; I'd love to see Cornell make inroads there.
Chance Lieb plays for the Sequin Bruins (OPJHL) this year.

Thanks for the note on Chance Lieb.
I head chris zaires was being recruited by many ivy's including cornell. his first choice i know was cornell and he talked to cornell alum shane palahicky. He has been having a great season in teh bchl. what are his chacnes of goign to hte big red.
Anon, 1.12, thanks...Zaires is having a nice year for Cowichan Valley. He looks like someone who has some offensive punch as he's leading the Caps in scoring in his 2nd year in BC -- he also led his L'ville prep team in scoring 2 years ago. Not sure what his chances are to head to Ithaca, but I think he'd look good in a Cornell jersey. If his prep school team's nickname is any indicator, it might be destiny...
I wrote the comment about zaires up top and have been following many of these players on your list. I am a young "scouting" free lancer so my opinion is not just that of a fans. I think that cornell hockey has the oppurtunity to do something special when andy iles comes in. Andy Iles, in my opinion, is the best 92 goalie at the moment in the wrold. His snub from the NTDP was because of size not skill. Although he will never be a great professional goalie, he may be the best goalie in teh NCAA at one point. This kid takes over games and I am extremely excited to see him go to an Ivy league school. cornell fans have to be more excited because he could change the ecac forever, a top prospect commiting to your school is a honor. Althouhg Riley Nash and many other good players have come to the ivy's, andy iles has been hyped since he was 10. There has never been such buzz in the scouting community of a player commtiting to the ivy league like there is right now with Andy Iles.
Anon. 1/17, I sense Cornell fans are extremely excited about Andy's decision. Local fans are beaming over his impending return home to go to school and play hockey.
Feel free to email me and we can chat some more.
Thanks.
Zaires committed to Brown as stated in collegehockeyrecruits.com
It's good to see that Zaires has landed at an Ivy; it's also good to see Brown pick him up after having lost Sparks to Michigan.
Thanks.
you forgot to mention Cole Bardreau from Fairport Highschool. played with trevor mingoia at fairport and i believe was also a team mate of John Knisely who already committed to the big red. cornell has shown much interest in cole inviting him to the campus and offering him a spot on the team. although he is only a sophomore who finished the year as co-player of year for the east in section v with knisely. cole is a hard worker and extremely talented and would be a great addition to this already impressive cornell hockey team.
sorry i put so much info in there just thought u should know about him.
and a question.....why wont andy iles be a good professional goalie in the nhl? if he's the best in the world now why wont he be good in the pro's?
Goonie, please don't apologize: you can provide as much info as you'd like to provide.
Bardreau is one of the best high school players in the talent-rich Rochester area. He'd look great in a Cornell jersey. I was under the impression that he was leaning toward the OHL. Hopefully, he'll choose the college route. He does play with Knisley in the Rochester Alliance program.
I would never bet against Andy Iles. An amazing talent and a fierce competitor.
thank you, cause im a friend of coles and i no that Boston college, UNH, and Cornell are very interested and i think possibly BU but not sure. but cole was invited to U17 national develeopment camp or something like that i can;t think of the exact name if thats not it. i also dont think he is going to the OHL idk why but it never came up in conversation.
but if cornell was to get cole and mingoia to go along with knisely then i think the big red have many national titles in their future
Goonie, you're quite welcome.
Cole was invited to the U17 National Team development camp -- very prestigious. Hopefully things go well for him there.
Cole and Trevor would be amazing pick ups for Cornell and they would certainly help to keep Lynah rocking. Having a core group of Rochester area players at Cornell would be interesting for western and central NY hockey fans. Rochester produces some fantastic players and it would be wonderful to see more of them at Cornell.
but i have a question.... when kids get drafted to the nhl their draft year is that of when they would graduate from highschool right?
and then if they get drafted outta highschool they go play college or where ever the team that drafted them want to go?
and if you dont get drafted outta highschool can u get drafted when u graduate college or no?
Goonie, to be draft eligible one has to be 18 by Sept. 15th, but not older than 20 by Dec. 31st. So for this summer's draft: anyone born in 1989 and 1990 is eligible; while anyone born in 1991 must have been born before 9/16.
As for your second question, I'm not an expert, but from the limited conversations I've had it sounds like most organizations want the player to be happy and are willing to work with the player as to how best to nurture his development. There's many factors that play into the equation: the player's age, number of games played in a season, competitiveness of a conference/league, etc.
Thirdly, once one enters that nearly three-year window described above, one can be drafted regardless of whether one's in high school, prep school, junior, major junior, or college. If a player is undrafted when he turns 20 he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
I think that sums it up...and I hope I stated it correctly.
thank you BRP.
now i hope this isnt any trouble but who on the cornell team now has been drafted? and have any of the prospects been drafted yet? or have a hope to be drafted?
Hi Goonie,
4 students on the current roster have been drafted, each before their having enrolled at Cornell: Sean Collins, Colin Greening, Justin Krueger, and Riley Nash -- with Nash being a 1st-round pick. A couple of freshmen, Kier Ross and Sean Whitney, are still eligible and could hear their names called this summer.
From next fall's freshman class, Braden Birch and Nick D'Agostino have already been drafted. A couple of other incoming recruits could be selected: Erik Axell and John Esposito (although John won't be eligible until next summer).
Of the group currently scheduled to enter in 2010, Rodger Craig, Kevin Cole, Armand deSwardt, and Jarred Seymour are eligible this year, with Rodger having been listed on NHL's Central Scouting report as a potential mid to late-round draftee.
Lastly, seven Cornellians have spent some time in the NHL this year.
It is nice to have tringale on our radar but I think he is leaning towards harvard.
Anon 3:22, it's nice to see the increased interest in prep student-athletes by Cornell.
I believe Brian Ward committed to dartmouth. Great all around player with a lot of upside.
Anon 9/18, thanks. Nice catch for Dartmouth.
Luke Curadi '91- Penticton BCHL.6'4
