Chris Heisenberg's site is reporting that Cornell has received committments from Joe and Mike Devin, Catholic Memorial, West Roxbury, Massachusetts. Although listed as 2006 recruits one has to wonder if the Devins will spend a year playing junior hockey (USHL?) before matriculating above Cayuga's shore. The Devin boys were born October 5, 1987, so deferring until 2007 is not out of the question.
Heisenberg has Joe (6' 1", 191) rated as the 59th overall prospect (23rd prep only) in Massachusetts/New England, while Mike (6' 2", 198) is listed as the 61st overall prospect (25th prep only). Additionally, according to NHL Central Scouting, Joe is listed as an A-rated prospect, meaning he could go in top three rounds of this year's draft; while Mike is rated as a B-rated prospect, joining Tony Romano, Blake Gallagher, and Brendon Nash as potential later-round selections.
Interestingly, as of today, Heisenberg's site also lists Chad Morin as having officially committed to Harvard. The Auburn, NY native was considering Cornell (and he was a popular choice in the current Puckhead Poll) and was probably at the top of their remaining wishlist. Chad, an alum of the U18 National Team, has a cousin (JD Forrest) who played for Boston College and now finds himself heading to Beantown. It will be curious to see what impact, if any, this has on Cornell's future recruitment of Chad's younger brother, Jeremy.
